How can I double check my balances?

in Balances and expenses

If your overall balance looks correct but you're surprised by who you owe or who owes you, you may have Simplify Debts enabled for your group. This feature reshuffles who owes whom in order to minimize the number of payments needed for everyone to settle up. It never changes anyone's overall balance. You can check whether it's enabled from your group's settings, and you can review your recent activity to see if someone recently turned it on or off.

If you'd like to dig deeper into your balances, here are a few tools that can help.

Recent Activity
One reason your balances may look unexpected is if a group member or friend recently made changes to shared expenses. Follow these steps to review any updates or changes that may have occurred:
  • On the mobile app, tap the "Activity" icon at the bottom of the screen.
  • On the web app (www.splitwise.com), click "Recent Activity" at the top left of the screen.
Printable Summaries
To review a full summary of all transactions in a group, follow these steps from a laptop or desktop:
  1.  Select your group from the left-hand navigation.
  2.  Below the "Settle Up" button, click the small blue text that says "View Printable Summary."
  3.  Use the dropdown in the top right corner to select a specific month or view an all-time summary.
Export Data as a Spreadsheet

You can export a full list of transactions for any group or friendship. The export shows each transaction as a row. The numbers under each person's name show the impact to that person's balance from the transaction in that row. When they pay for an expense or make a payment, the number is positive. When they borrow money for an expense or receive a payment, the number is negative. There is also a "Cost" column that shows the total amount of that transaction.
On the mobile app:
  1. Navigate to the relevant friendship or group.
  2. Scroll to the right in the horizontal menu in the header of that screen.
  3. Tap on the 'Export' button at the end of that menu.
On the web app:
  1.  Open the relevant group or friendship from the left sidebar.
  2.  Click the gear icon in the top right corner.
  3.  Click "Export Spreadsheet."
