What are different ways I can split an expense?

in Balances and expenses

You can split expenses in several ways to make sure everyone pays the right amount. These options are available when creating or editing an expense:
  • Equally: The default. The expense is split evenly between everyone listed on the expense. Tap or click a person's name to remove them from the split, and the remainder will be divided equally among the others.
  • By exact amounts: Enter the exact amount each person should pay.
  • By percentage: Enter the percentage of the total each person should pay.
  • By shares: Assign a number of shares to each person. Useful when splitting with couples or families where some people should pay more than others.
  • By adjustment: Enter an adjustment to a person's share, and the rest of the expense will be split equally among everyone else.
  • Reimbursement (web only): For refunds or reimbursements, when one person received a refund and needs to distribute it to others. See our article on refunds and reimbursements for more details.
  • Itemized: Enter individual items from a bill and assign them to specific people. You can also add tax, tip, and discounts. On the mobile app, Pro subscribers can itemize by scanning a receipt.
