When you record a payment in your friendship that fully clears what you and a friend owe each other across all shared groups and non-group expenses, Splitwise will automatically add an entry to confirm you're fully settled up.
On the mobile app, these entries are marked with a scale icon. You may see them labeled with the term "Settle all balances" or the phrase "You are fully settled up with [your friend's name]."
For example, say you and a friend share expenses in two groups.

For example, say you and a friend share expenses in two groups.
- In group A, you owe them $20
- In group B, they owe you $5
- So you owe them $15 overall
If you record a $15 payment to them in your friendship, Splitwise automatically adds these entries in both groups and in your friendship to bring everything to zero. Essentially, Splitwise uses the $15 payment as the basis for adding balancing entries in each shared group — $20 cleared in group A and $5 cleared in group B — so that your balances everywhere on Splitwise reach zero.
Note: Deleting or editing the payment won't automatically update the balancing entries. In this case, we recommend manually deleting those entries to keep your balances up-to-date. On mobile, tap one of the balancing entries >> tap the trash can icon.
