Splitwise is designed for splitting expenses with other people, so it isn't a full personal finance tool. However, some users do use it for personal expense tracking by creating a group just for themselves named something like "Personal" or "My Expenses".
Keep in mind that Splitwise automatically hides expenses that don't affect anyone's balance. If you add expenses that only include yourself, they'll be collapsed under a "Show settled expenses" link, since they don't create a balance with anyone else. They're still there, just tucked away.
