Splitwise is an app for splitting expenses with friends and family. It lets you add various expenses and keep track of who owes who, then helps everyone settle up with each other.
Here's a quick overview of how it works:
Sign up for an account. You can sign up from the mobile app or at www.splitwise.com/signup. You may also receive an invite from a friend who wants to split expenses with you.
Create a group. Groups are the best way to split expenses with a set of people on an ongoing basis, for example your apartment, a ski trip, or a family vacation. When creating a group, you'll invite the other members so everyone can view the group, add their own expenses, and keep track of their balance.
You can also add non-group expenses for one-off situations that don't need a dedicated group, like splitting dinner with a couple of friends.
Add your expenses. Tap "Add expense" and fill in the details such as expense amount, who paid, and the date. Expenses are split equally by default, but you can choose to split them by exact amount, by percentage, by shares, and more. Once you save an expense, everyone's balances update automatically.
Settle up when you're ready. Tap "Settle up" to pay someone back or record that you've been paid. You can record a payment made outside Splitwise (cash, a bank transfer, etc.), or in supported countries, send money directly through Splitwise using a payment method such as Splitwise Pay, Pay by Bank, or our third-party integrations with Venmo and PayPal.
